Big Fish/Little Fish

Hello Rapids Families! The Big Fish / Little Fish Program is a fun program where an older swimmer (Big Fish volunteer – age 12 & older, and familiar with the swim meet process) is paired with a younger or swimmer (Little Fish – age 8 & under). This program is designed to guide and encourage the younger swimmers and promotes camaraderie, team spirit, and support across age groups within the team. Volunteering as a Big Fish also provides an opportunity for our older swimmers to learn the importance of mentoring someone who is not as experienced as they are. If your 12 and over child would like to volunteer as a Big Fish, please contact me so that I can ensure they are paired with a Little Fish. **All swimmers ages 8 and under are assigned a Big Fish, however, if this is your swimmers first time on a swim team, regardless of their age, and they would like to have a Big Fish (or mentor) to show them the swim meet process on a more informal level, please let me know and I’ll make every effort to pair them with an experienced swim team member who will be sure to guide and encourage them through their first few swim meets. Big Fish Responsibilities Include: 1. Greet your Little Fish at each meet 2. Help your Little Fish write events on their arm before each swim meet 3. Make sure your Little Fish gets to the Clerk of Course for each of their events 4. CHEER for your Little Fish on while they swim in their events (you may want to ask them to cheer for you as well!) 5. Tell your Little Fish if you will be missing a meet 6. Give your Little Fish an encouraging good luck gift or token before each swim meet. Some suggestions could be: a small bag filled with their favorite snacks or candy, a card, or a small toy (please do not exceed $5.00 during any given week) **To all of our Little Fish, please have your parents let your Big Fish know when you’ll be missing a meet as well. Here’s looking forward to another fun swim team season! GO RAPIDS!!!
